Starting today, May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers aged 18 and older will need to present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of identification—such as a valid passport, U.S. military ID, or DHS trusted traveler card—to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. REAL ID-compliant IDs are typically marked with a star at the top right corner of the card; those labeled with “federal limits apply” are not compliant. To avoid complications, it’s advisable to obtain a REAL ID ahead of time, as DMV appointment backlogs are common. For more information, visit the TSA’s REAL ID page.
