In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a Presidential proclamation designating the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday (August 19) as National Aviation Day. As you probably know, the Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur) were two American aviators who are credited with inventing, building and flying the world’s first successful airplane which took its first flight on December 17th, 1903 near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Thanks to these gentlemen, millions of people are able to quickly travel between destinations on a daily basis.
